About the Work
Kuṟiñcippāṭṭu or ‘song of the mountains’ is also called Peruṅkuṟiñci. Its author is Kapilar. Composed in akaval metre, Kuṟiñcippāṭṭu has 261 lines, and is the longest work of Kapilar. A colophon to the commentary of Kuṟiñcippāṭṭu mentions that it was composed by Kapilar to instruct an Aryan king, Pirakatattaṉ, in Tamil poetry. It deals with pre-marital love of the akam lovers of the hilly region. It contains a charming depiction of mountain life with an absorbing picture of the hilly tract. Kapilar famously mentions 99 flowers typical of the mountain region in this work.
