About Pattuppāṭṭu-porunarāṟṟuppaṭai
Porunarāṟṟuppaṭai consisting in 248 lines has the Chola king Karikālaṉ as the protogonist. The title means ‘a guide unto beneficence for war bards’. Set in akaval and vañci metres, the poem, composed by Muṭattāmak Kaṇṇiyār, directs a war bard to the court of the Chola king. The Chola kingdom, its inhabitants, the river Kāviri, the music of yāḻ, the conquests of the Chola king and the wealth and prosperity of the Chola kingdom are portrayed in this work.
