FAQ's of the Library

1. Who can access the library Services?

All students, faculty members and staff working with the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (Chennai) are authorized to use the library. Tamil Scholors, aspirants, Professors and students also have the privilege to use the Main Library 

2. How can I access the Liberary catalogue?

You can access the new library catalogue through https://library.cict.in/semmozhi/index.php

3. What are your Library Hours?

Monday to Friday: 09:00 am - 05:30 pm Closed on Saturdays,Sundays and Government of India holidays.

4. What are the items types available in the library?

Pavendhar Library has the following category of materials: • Books: (for general reading) • Bound Volume: (Bound volume journals not for issue) • CD/DVDs: (digital contents to be referred within the library) • Gifted Books: (Book received as gratis available for general reading) • Reference materials: (to be referred within the library) • Text Books: (textbooks recommended for courses, to be referred within the library)

5. What types of documents are kept in the Reference Section?

Reference Collection mainly contains, Encyclopedias, Handbook, Dictionaries, Directories, Atlases, Audio, Video and some rare collection.

6. Can I Borrow Books from Reference Section?

Reference books, rare books, unbound periodicals, bound volumes of Journals, and any other expensive or otherwise precious materials will not be issued.

7. Can I get XEROX / REPROGRAPHY of some pages of books inside the Library?

Yes, the photocopy facilities are available in the Library. Library allows only library books/ periodicals. However, outside documents will not be copied from the library

8. How can I give my comments / feedback to library authority?

Any user can give his/her comments/ feedback by using ‘online feedback system’ embedded in Library Website. The Library welcomes their ideas, feedback or comments regarding library services Click on the below link to give feedback

9. How can I recommend a book for purchase in the Library?

Of course. An authorized user can recommend a book for purchase by filling- in a “Book recommendation from” that can be obtained from the Book Acquisition Division or Circulation counter. OR Go to https://library.cict.in/downloads.html and hand over to the Library acquisition section.

10.How can I access the E-Recourses?

As it is mentioned on the web site under the E-Resources, you can access these databases through the login credentials of Pavendhar library website which has been issued to all the registered users of CICT. Those who don’t know the credentials can contact to the library.
