About Pattuppāṭṭu - Neṭunalvāṭai
This idyll of 188 lines in āciriyappā metre was composed by Nakkīrar. During the peak of winter, a king is away fighting enemies, while his queen is greatly anguished by the separation. The long northern wind is good and bad at the same time. While it prolongs the separation of the queen from the king, it holds back the king to attend to his duties in the war camp.
The poem contains absorbing pictures of the winter season, besides relishing descriptions of the palace, the bed chambers of the queen, the royal cot and the state of the queen. The king whose glory is sung by Nakkīrar in this song is Neṭuñceḻiyaṉ, the Pandya king who is also celebrated by Māṅkuṭi Marutaṉār in Maturaikkāñci.
