About Pattuppāṭṭu - Kuṟiñcippāṭṭu
Kuṟiñcippāṭṭu or ‘song of the mountains’ is also called Peruṅkuṟiñci. Its author is Kapilar. Composed in akaval metre, Kuṟiñcippāṭṭu has 261 lines, and is the longest work of Kapilar. A colophon to the commentary of Kuṟiñcippāṭṭu mentions that it was composed by Kapilar to instruct an Aryan king, Pirakatattaṉ, in Tamil poetry.
It deals with pre-marital love of the akam lovers of the hilly region. It contains a charming depiction of mountain life with an absorbing picture of the hilly tract. Kapilar famously mentions 99 flowers typical of the mountain region in this work.
