This is the only one among the 18 Kīḻkkaṇakku works that belongs to puṟam (war) genere of poetry. Kaḷavaḻi poems deal either with the warfront or with the threshing floor. The work contains 41 poems composed by Poykaiyār in veṇpā metre. It describes the Kaḻumalam battle in which Ceṅkaṇāṉ, the Chola king, destroys the army of Kaṇaikkāl Irumpoṟai, a Chera king. The Chera king was captured and put in prison by the Chola whereupon Poykaiyār, his friend, composed the work seeking the release of the Chera.
