About Patiṉeṇ kīḻkkaṇakku - Paḻamoḻi Nāṉūṟu
Among the 18 didactic works in Tamil, Paḻamoḻi Nāṉūṟu is the only one that treats of proverbs and sayings. The author of this work is Muṉṟuṟai Araiyaṉār. This book is called Paḻamoḻi Nāṉūṟu in the sense that every stanza has a proverb tacked to it at the end with a defining idea forming part of the preceding times. It has an old commentary. Historical and mythological allusions are brought in to illustrate the truth of some proverbs. Economy of expression and profundity of thought characterize this treatise.
