About Patiṉeṇ kīḻkkaṇakku - Ciṟupañcamūlam
The author of Ciṟupañcamūlam is Kāriyācāṉ, a Jain poet. This work treats of five ideas in each stanza. The roots of five plants - kaṇṭaṅkattiri (wild brinjal), ciṟuvaḻutuṇai (small brinjal), ciṟumalli (small jasmine), perumalli (big jasmine) and neruñci (cow’s thorn) – are called ciṟupañcamūlam. Those roots help to cure bodily diseases. In the same manner, the five moral ideas embodied in every verse of this treatise are intended to cure inner ailments. It contains 102 stanzas excluding the invocatory and the special prologue. Each stanza of this work is composed in veṇpā metre.
