About Ettuthokai-Puṟanāṉūṟu

There are in it four hundred puṟam poems depicting the history and the heroic deeds of the Chera, Chola and Pandya kings and chieftains. Puṟanāṉūṟu is a collection of poems composed by 157 poets. The poems in Puṟanāṉūṟu not only describe the valour of the kings but also the social and religious cultural life of the Tamils as also major historical events concerning the people, poets and the kings of the day.

It also describes the ethical and humanistic values and cultural standards of the ancient Tamil society at large. It is therefore a vertical treasure-house of classical Tamil culture and civilization in their varied dimensions.
