Dr Iravatham Mahadevan spent seven long years of research in the area of Indus Valley Civilization and published his findings on the signs and symbols in the form of a book titled, The Indus Script: Texts, Concordance and Tablesin 1977, through the Department of the Archaeological Survey of India. Research on the Indus script has been a passion with him all through his life. He held the view that the Indus script (language) was ancient Dravidian. Of late, he has arrived at the conclusion that the Indus civilization is closely allied to the civilization prevalent during the Sangam age. He has proved his thesis, with suitable evidence, in his book Vestiges of Indus Civilization of Old Tamil. This was formerly presented as a paper in the Sixteenth Tamilnadu Historical conference held in Tiruchirappalli on 9 October, 2009. This book, which occupies a special place in the history of Tamil civilization and culture, has been faithfully translated by Professor P.R.Subramanian into Tamil bearing the title சிந்துவெளிப் பண்பாடும், சங்க இலக்கியமும். |
