About the Book:- |
The Central Institute of Classical Tamil has undertaken the onerous task of getting forty-one ancient Tamil Classics translated into English and other western and Indian languages as these immortal works reflect the sweetness of Tamil, its strength, its uniqueness, its heritage, its richness and its grandeur. Now we are proud to launch the Kannada translations of Ettuttokai and Pattuppāţţu, ably done by a select band of scholars led by Thiru. R. Srinivasan is associated with the reputed Bangalore Tamil Sangam. The Narriņai is one of the eight anthologies (Ettuttokai) consisting of poems in akaval metre composed by 192 poets. This collection was caused to be made by Māran Valuti and includes an invocatory song written by Bharatam Pāțiya Peruntēvanār. The Kuruntokai, Narriņai and Akanānūru describe in exquisite dramatic monologues the various moods of lovers in 400 verses each, the first containing stanzas of four to eight lines, the second of nine to twelve lines, the third of thirteen to thirty-one lines. T. P. Meenakshisundaram has stated that since this anthology consists of poems of moderate length, it is aptly called 'nal tinai'. The images employed in many of these poems are so exquisite that some of the poets are known only by the images found in their poems. |
