About the Book:-

Dynamics of Tamil Finite System is a work dealing with various aspects of Tamil Syntax in its historical and comparative perspectives. Tamil is the only language with more than 2000 years of unbroken literary and grammatical traditions in the Dravidan linguistic family. These traditions have been very much influenced by the Dravidian dialects in general and Tamil dialects in particular.

The conjugational system of Tamil is not only multi-dimensional but has not been uniformaly maintained as well. The conjugational interference is noteworthy in the history of Tamil syntax. Similarly, the negative finite system also is unique in classical Tamil in general and Sangam classics in particular in that the personal negation is added after impersonal past finite system of ceytu and pātiṟṟu types, and non past impersonal finite system of ceyku and ceykiṇṟu types in classical and middle Tamil. The ceyyiya type of infinitives profusely documented in early Tamil is retained even now in the dialects of Kanyakumari Tamil. The non past impersonal finite constructions of ceyuntu type in old Tamil are the source of non past finite system of not only in South Dravidian but in Central Dravidian as well. Several other historical and comparative aspects of phonology, morphology and syntax of Tamil through ages have been discussed in the work on Dynamics of Tamil Finite System.
